Update from latest BID stakeholder meeting

Feedback stakeholder meeting at Hexham Abbey 27th Feb 2017

Hexham Abbey kindly hosted our latest stakeholder meeting in their Wilfred Room, and BID Director Trish Hannant welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Owen Mills, General Manager, gave a short presentation on what the Abbey is doing circulating their Spring events guide, and explaining the Abbey wanted to be more engaged with the businesses community and the town. The Abbey is reviewing the car park to see if it can be opened up for local use. They will running a Flower Festival in July (20th-23rd) and a special Roman Day on August Bank Holiday Monday to tie in with Hadrian’s Cavalry multi site events, and would welcome businesses linking up with them on this. We discussed whether the BID should run a garden/flower themed market to complement and give local traders opportunities.

Helen Grayshan, the BID Manager, circulated details of training opportunities for businesses, and asked for feedback on what businesses would like that the BID could arrange. On BID projects, there would soon be an announcement about improving the appearance and cleanliness of the town, working with a local partner.

There was then a discussion about plans for Christmas, and for retail promotion, looking at a local gift card scheme with a click n collect style shopping portal. Finally, it was noted that some traders were involved in making Hexham a Dementia Friendly town, working with the Alzheimer’s Society and Hexham Town Council, and that the BID might support this.
